Manchester, NH – In honor of Columbus Day, this week’s Taxes of the Day have focused on how Sen. Hassan’s tax and fee increases made it more expensive for New Hampshire boaters to “sail the ocean blue.” To close out the week, Sen. Hassan’s vote to increase the lake restoration fee is “Maggie’s Tax of the Day” for October 12, 2012.
In order to bail out her 2009 budget, one that was quickly taking on water as a result of millions of dollars in irresponsible overspending, Sen. Hassan continued to put the burden on the state’s boaters. Already we’ve highlighted the increase in vessel registration fees, agent fees and transfer fees, as well as the cost associated with earning a captain’s license. Today, we note that associated with her doubling of the registration fee, Sen. Hassan increased by 50% the portion of that fee directed towards a lake restoration fund.
Sen. Hassan’s 24% increase in spending coupled with 99 tax and fee increases to pay for it ran our economy aground. She can’t be given control of the ship of state to do it again.
