Manchester, NH - To date we have highlighted 33 tax and fee increases implemented during Sen. Hassan’s four years in Senate leadership, and finding them all took a bit of digging through budget bills and other legislation. So, as we move into the second third of Sen. Hassan’s 99 tax and fee increases, her vote to increase licensing fees for private investigators is “Maggie’s Tax of the Day” for October 15, 2012.
In 2010, legislation was enacted to reform the regulation and oversight of the state’s private investigation companies. Of course, for Senator Hassan, no good regulatory reform is complete with out a fee increase, so as a part of the legislation, she supported increasing the agency licensing fee by 50% for one person companies and 25% for larger firms. And though not technically a fee increase, Sen. Hassan also supported amending the charge for individual licenses, required to be obtained by all investigators, from $5 to “a reasonable fee, not exceeding $50” to be set by the commissioner of safety.
