Manchester, NH - Today we celebrate the 520th anniversary of Columbus’ voyage aboard the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria to discover the new world.  In commemoration, Sen. Hassan’s vote to double boat registration fees is “Maggie’s Tax of the Day” for Columbus Day, October 10, 2012.

As a part of her bloated 2009 budget, Sen. Hassan taxed basically anything that moved.  Last week we highlighted 13 fee increases on motorists, this week we look at how her overspending cost New Hampshire boaters.

The most expensive of her five boat related fee increases doubled boat registration fees for vessels of every size:

from $12 to $24 for boats up to 16' in length;

from $17 to $34 for boats 16'1" to 21' in length;

from $26 to $52 for boats 21'1" to 30' in length;

from $35 to $72 for boats 20'1" to 45' in length;

and from $46 to $92 for boats 45'1" in length or longer.
