WHY: At a special event Thursday morning, Governor John Lynch will
proclaim November as “Safe Disposal of Medical Sharps Month.”
The Medical Sharps Subcommittee of the Health and Human
Services Oversight Committee of the New Hampshire Legislature
has collaborated with government, industry and health care
leaders to help educate New Hampshire residents about the
proper disposal of medical sharps.
A representative of Waste Management, Inc. will announce an
agreement to bring sharps disposal boxes to the State House and
Legislative Office Building in Concord. The secure, metal
boxes will be provided courtesy of Waste Management. The
company will also provide free, regular collection and disposal
of the used sharps.
State Representative J. David Knox, Chairman of the Medical
Sharps Subcommittee will also announce efforts to provide
20,000 free labels for NH sharps users reading “Medical Sharps
Container – Not for Recycling.” The labels, designed to be
applied to sealed detergent bottles filled with used household
sharps, will be available at many local transfer stations
throughout the State and will also be distributed by the
Granite State Diabetes Educators
