MANCHESTER, NH – Maggie Hassan for Governor today announced the endorsement of Mike Hoefer, the managing editor of BlueHampshire.com. BlueHampshire is the online hub for progressive politics in the Granite State. Hoefer announced his endorsement today on BlueHampshire.com.
“I’m thrilled to have Mike’s support in this campaign,” said Hassan. “He will be a valuable sounding board as we work to reach out to the netroots community and voters across New Hampshire.”
In his endorsement, Hoefer cited Hassan’s work to pass universal kindergarten, marriage equality, and ability to work with both parties to get things done for the people of New Hampshire.
Mike Hoefer’s Endorsement of Maggie Hassan:
If the damaging legislation that made it through the House in the past week has not proved to you that we need a Democratic Governor in the corner office in Concord I'm not sure what will. Maggie is our best chance to keep the Governor’s office in Democratic control and safeguard the things we all care about.
I've gotten to know Maggie a bit over the years and have found Maggie to be a passionate fighter for the causes she believes in.
• In the Senate Maggie helped to pass universal access to Kindergarten in our state
• In her role of Senate Majority Leader Maggie worked to find the legislative language that allowed fellow lawmakers to join her in supporting Marriage Equity.
• She knows first hand the workings of our state at the highest level and will hit the ground running to make sure Democrats in the General Court protect what we fought for, and make new progress with other indicatives and important ideals.
• She understands the importance of working with members of both sides of the aisle to get things done in New Hampshire.
In August of 2008 I had the unique opportunity to travel with the NH Delegation to the Democratic National Convention. Maggie was not there as a delegate but as Mom to her daughter Meg who was appointed as a “Page" for the delegation.
If you believe our children reflect who we are as parents, than Maggie and her Husband Tom must be great parents. In fact I think I warned Maggie that week that she was in trouble if Meg ever aspired to win a seat that she held.
With my oldest child Taylor excelling in the new Keene Middle School (more A's on one report card than I had in my career!) I wonder if our high school will have the funding and support to challenge her and her friends? Will my family be able and access the loans and grants that our family will need in order to send the kids to college? These are the questions on my mind as I consider what could happen in NH over the next few years.
The road ahead is not easy for Democrats in NH. Not only do we need to buck history to hold on to the Governors office, but we must retake the House, and make significant gains on the Executive Council and in the Senate as well.
I believe our party is best equipped to fight the dismantling of the commons with Maggie at the top of our State Ballot.
I encourage you to learn more about Maggie and to support her in the Democratic Primary in September.
Nota Bene: While I am personally endorsing Maggie, Blue Hampshire will remain a place where both candidates and their supporters can feel welcome post and engage. I do not have a paid or unpaid role with the campaign.
