Focuses on Marriage
Last Sunday’s front-page story in the New Hampshire Union Leader highlighted the growing momentum behind legislative efforts to restore traditional marriage in New Hampshire.
NH for Marriage proudly supports HB 437, legislation sponsored by Rep. David Bates (R-Windham), which restores the traditional definition of marriage.
We believe HB 437 reflects the true will of the people by restoring traditional marriage, while also offering what Rep. Bates aptly described as “a necessary compromise” that restores “reciprocal benefits and obligations” for same sex couples by returning to the previous system of civil unions in New Hampshire.
The Union Leader wrote:
“(HB 437) would allow “civil unions,” defined as “a contractual agreement that provides reciprocal benefits and obligations to the parties to the agreement.” And it would entitle those parties to all the “rights, obligations and responsibilities” that apply to those joined under RSA 457 — the state's marriage law.
Rep. Bates described his bold compromise legislation this way:
“’One of my objectives with the floor amendment is to remove any language that gives people an excuse to not support this,’ he said, ‘without compromising the fundamental purpose of the bill: to restore the proper meaning of marriage and to implement civil unions.’”
We need YOU to join New Hampshire Republicans, Independents, and Democrats who share our values to stand up against the national gay marriage lobby, and help pass HB 437!
