Singer-Songwriter Shawn Colvin to Perform in Prescott Park
Concert Series Welcomes Back Three Time Grammy Award Winner
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - As part of the Prescott Park Arts Festival 38th season, distinguished singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin will perform in Prescott Park as part of the River House Restaurant Concert Series on Wednesday, June 27, at 7pm. Colvin's album, Shawn Colvin Live, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
"Shawn Colvin stands out among female singer-songwriters as an enduring talent. She has one of those stunning, beautiful voices that lingers with you," said Prescott Park Arts Festival executive director Ben Anderson.
Since releasing her debut album 22 years ago, Colvin has won three Grammy awards and released nine albums, appeared on television and radio programs, and has had songs featured in major motion pictures, in addition to maintaining a national and international touring schedule.
Colvin's songs evoke a storyteller's warm and rich touch, her voice lending tenderness and empathy to even the toughest tales, such as the murder-ballad, "Sunny Came Home", which gave Colvin a Top 10 hit, as well as two Grammys.
"We are thrilled to welcome Shawn back, her musical style is perfect for the idyllic setting of the park, and this concert promises to be one of the most breathtaking events this summer," says Anderson.
Colvin's newest studio album, All Fall Down, was released on June 4, 2012, includes 11 songs written and co-written by Colvin, as well guest performances including Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, and Jakob Dylan. She recently performed at the first annual PEN awards for songwriting excellence at the JFK Presidential Library in Boston, Massachusetts.
Held each Wednesday night in Prescott Park, the concert series has experienced record attendance number in the past summers, featuring a wide variety of International and Grammy Award winning artists. The concert series will feature acts like Lucinda Williams, Suzanne Vega, Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul, and Mary), The Cowboy Junkies and Iris DeMent.
The River House Restaurant Concert Series is part of the Prescott Park Arts Festival's 38th season that also features the musical Willy Wonka, presented by the Common Man Resturant Family, running every Thursday through Sunday until August 26, 2012.
