Rudy Giuliani Endorses Kevin Smith for Governor

Former New York City Mayor Cites Smith's Economic Plan as Factor for Support

Manchester, NH – Kevin Smith, Republican candidate for governor, announced today that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has endorsed his campaign. The Mayor, who ran for President during the 2008 election cycle, cited Kevin's focus on the economy and specific plan for improving New Hampshire’s business climate as a factor in his decision to stand behind Smith’s candidacy.

“As New York City Mayor, I knew that bland strokes and generic ideas weren't going to fix our great city's problems. The same goes for New Hampshire and every other state in the country facing serious economic concerns. More than anyone else, Kevin Smith is the candidate who is offering real solutions toaddress these challenges and will move New Hampshire forward.”

Giuliani continued, “Not unlike my efforts as Mayor, Kevin understands that if you want to attract new employers and help existing companies to grow, lowering business taxes is the best way to do it. In the end, you will spur economic growth and broaden your tax base at the same time.”

“The time for posturing is over,” Giuliani said. “I’ve known Kevin over the past several years, and he has the ideas and the drive to win and get things done in the corner office. To turn government around – whether a city or a state – you need to be bold, you need to be decisive, and you need to have a plan. Kevin is dynamic and has the fortitude to lead New Hampshire toward greater prosperity, and I’m proud to support him for governor.”

Smith, who is promoting his economic plan for recovery, NH's Future is Now, expressedhis appreciation and said he is “honored” to have the support of Mayor Giuliani, who he called a true and proven leader.

“I couldn’t be more honored than to have the endorsement of a proven leader who knows how to make the difficult decisions necessary to achieve the desired outcomes. Mayor Giuliani led New York out of economic stagnation and cleaned up the streets. I admire him, because he’s a fixer. Through his decisive and swift actions, he made New York City a better place to live and to do business. I look forward to his guidance as we move forward in this race for real leadership in New Hampshire’s corner office,” Smith said.
