Manchester, NH – The Mayor and Board of Alderman recently approved a pilot program for a partial closure of Hanover Street which will begin this Friday at 6:00pm. The street will be closed between Chestnut Street and the Citizens Bank Garage access way from 6:00pm-7:00am every Friday and Saturday until August 4th.
“Our intention is to create a new center of activity to enhance the vibrancy of downtown. If the pilot program is as successful as we expect it to be, the program may be extended or expanded in the future.” stated Jay Minkarah, Manchester Economic Development Director. “This is a great opportunity for the City and the small businesses on Hanover Street”, stated Penuche’s owner Chuck Kalatzes. “We are going to do our part to ensure it is a success.” Kalatzes has taken charge of the entertainment during the pilot program and hired the Read/Allan Duo to play on Hanover Street from 6:00pm-11:00pm each night. Hanover Street businesses are invited to extend their businesses into the street. Ignite, Hooked, Penuche’s and Planet Marshmallow plan on taking advantage of the expanded seating. The Palace Theater also has shows scheduled at 7:00pm each evening. Vehicles will be able to access and exit the Citizen’s Bank parking garage as usual.
