Decisive victory shows strong and growing support among GOP activists
Hillsborough, NH — Demonstrating his continued strength among the party faithful, Ovide Lamontagne, Republican candidate for Governor, handily won the Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers’ straw poll taken Saturday afternoon at the group’s annual picnic.
“I want to thank those who attended today’s event and backed me in the straw poll,” said Lamontagne. “It is obvious that conservatives are united and hungry for victory this fall and I look forward to working with them in the weeks and months ahead.”
Out of three candidates receiving votes, Ovide took 52% of the straw poll vote, 23% ahead of the next nearest candidate.
Republican activist Merle Burke of Bedford supported Ovide in the straw poll and said, "Ovide is putting together a very solid campaign, he's done his homework and knows what the state needs. Ovide is a strong conservative leader who will look out for the state's taxpayers."
“Ovide is running a town-to-town campaign that will rely heavily on the support of grassroots activists like those at today’s event,” said Ovide for Governor campaign manager Paul Collins. “We are grateful for their continued support.”
This was Lamontagne's second consecutive straw poll victory. He previously won the Hillsborough County Republican Committee straw poll in early June.
