Lamontagne Wins Rochester GOP Straw Poll

Conservative base strongly united behind Lamontagne

Rochester, NH – With less than a month before the September 11 primary, Ovide Lamontagne, Republican candidate for governor, continues to show overwhelming strength among the party faithful, winning 89% of the vote at today’s Rochester Republican Committee straw poll.

“I am grateful for the grassroots support our campaign has generated from all corners of the state,” said Lamontagne.  “Today’s strong showing in Rochester is even more special to me as this is where my great-grandparents first settled and purchased our family farm in 1891.  As someone who has always drawn strength from people and places, it means a lot to me to have a strong base of support here in the Lilac City.”

Lamontagne received 93 out of 105 ballots cast at the committee’s Second Annual Chili Cook-off and Straw Poll, held at Factory Court in Rochester.

Marga Coulp of Dover supported Ovide in the straw poll because, “He is one of us.  He is a family man with good values and the experience to lead New Hampshire.  He will make an excellent governor!”

“This has been a great week for the campaign,” said campaign manager Paul Collins.  “From the Union Leader endorsement earlier this week to today’s convincing straw poll win.  It is clear the momentum in this race is with Ovide and that his message of fiscal discipline and economic prosperity is winning over voters around the state.”

This is Lamontagne’s fourth consecutive straw poll victory.  He previously won straw polls held in Hillsborough, Hollis and Dover.
