Hassan Commemorates Women's Equality Day

Recent comments by Republican Candidates demonstrates importance of letting women make own health care decisions

MANCHESTER – Democratic candidate for Governor Maggie Hassan released a statement commemorating Women’s Equality Day and the 92nd anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.

“On the 92nd anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, I am extraordinarily grateful, as both a candidate for Governor of New Hampshire and as the mother of a strong 19 year-old daughter, to the generations of women who came before me and who struggled for the full recognition and equal treatment of women under the law,” said Hassan.

“Recent comments by Republican Congressman Todd Akin and Republican candidate for Hillsborough County Sheriff Frank Szabo demonstrate why it is so important to have elected officials who believe that women are competent and able to make their own very personal health care choices. Women across New Hampshire deserve to know whether their next governor will stand up and protect their rights, including her right to make her own personal and private health care decisions," said Hassan.
