As Ovide Lamontagne Announces his "Women's Coalition" he should Come Clean with New Hampshire Women about his Radical Position on Abortion, Women's Health Care
CONCORD - Ovide Lamontagne should be clear with the women of New Hampshire about his radical position on abortion and women's health care.
Lamontagne said he believes life begins at conception and has said he supports a human life amendment, which would outlaw all abortions, even in the case of rape and incest. The amendment would even outlaw some forms of birth control and fertility treatments.
"As Ovide Lamontagne asks for votes from women across New Hampshire, he should be clear about his radical position on abortion and women's health care," said Kathy Sullivan, an attorney and former chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party. "Ovide Lamontagne wants to ban all abortions, even for rape victims.
"With Ovide Lamontagne as Governor, and a Bill O'Brien legislature, women across New Hampshire would face an unprecedented attack on their reproductive freedom and access to health care," said Sullivan. The current legislature has introduced a large number of bills aimed at limiting abortion rights and limiting insurance coverage for birth control.
"Would Ovide Lamontagne sign legislation de-funding Planned Parenthood? Would he force doctors to give scientifically inaccurate information to women? Would he force women to get invasive vaginal ultrasounds or pay for multiple doctor appointments," asked Sullivan. "Ovide Lamontagne should tell the women of New Hampshire how he plans to limit their access to health care.
Ovide has been endorsed by extreme anti-choice activist Gordon Humphrey. As a U.S. Senator, Humphrey supported efforts to de-fund Planned Parenthood, even going against officials in the Reagan administration to further the effort. Humphrey even backed Operation Rescue Founder Randall Terry in his congressional campaign.
