NH DHHS - New Hampshire Foster Youth Convene For Independent Living Conference “When Life’s Not FAIR”

Keene, NH – More than 100 youth will gather tomorrow, Thursday, August 9th



for the 8th Annual Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) Teen



Conference. The daylong conference is designed for youth ages 14 – 20



currently or formerly in state care. The Western Region of the NH Youth



Voices advisory board will provide icebreaker and team building activities.



The keynote address will be Digital Stories, a collaborative effort with



the National Resource Center for Permanency at the Hunter College School of



Social Work featuring current and former youth in care sharing their story



through the use of images, pictures, music and their own narration. There



will be a number of workshops geared toward providing these youth with



helpful information on topics such as getting a job, self advocacy,



navigating the college admissions process and staying safe online. In



addition youth will learn about key resources to assist them as they



transition into adulthood. New Hampshire’s Health and Human Services



Division of Children Youth and Families Director Maggie Bishop will speak



at the Conference. The day will include fair themed food and games, a



talent show and an awards ceremony honoring youth and adults for their



positive impact on youth in foster care.



The conference begins at 8:30 AM in the Young Student Center at Keene State

College.
