Lamontagne For Governor - Maggie's Tax of the Day: #7 & 8 

Manchester, NH - On this day in 1789, the U.S. Congress passed the Judiciary Act to create the federal judiciary system.  As a State Senator, Maggie Hassan twice voted to make it more expensive for New Hampshire residents to petition our state judicial system for justice.  Those two votes to increase court fees are Maggie's Taxes of the Day for September 24, 2012.

First, in 2008, Sen. Hassan voted to continue a $5 surcharge added to family court entry fees.  Then, in 2009, Sen. Hassan voted to create a new $10 fee on district court civil cases.

Background: As a State Senator:

Maggie Hassan SUPPORTED adding $5 to certain entry fees established by the judicial branch family division (OTP on SB350, 1/23/08). 

Maggie Hassan SUPPORTED adding $10 to the district court entry for civil writs (OTP on SB106, 3/11/09).
