Gary Johnson: “It borders on racist”

August 28, 2012

By Alex Pareene

Johnson spent Sunday at PaulFest, making an appeal to the supporters of the other libertarian candidate from the 2012 primary campaign. Paul’s decision to run again probably cost Johnson — a candidate whose résumé should have made him harder to dismiss — precious media oxygen.

Now he’s the official Libertarian Party nominee, and he’s fighting for ballot access and debate invitations. He seemed tired (it’s been a long campaign!) but he was serious, sincere and pissed at his former party. (I’d heard he was sorta intense — he climbs mountains and never touches alcohol or tobacco.)

Gloria Allred Supports Inclusion of Libertarian Party Candidate

August 30, 2012

By Jay Bildstein

The mainstream media is focused on two candidates contending for the presidency, President Barack Obama and former Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney. There are, however, two other candidates who could garner enough electoral votes to win the presidency. They are former Governor Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party and Dr. Jill Stein of the Green Party. Neither Governor Johnson nor Dr. Stein are slated to participate in the presidential debates. They are being kept out.

Gary Johnson will be on the ballot in all 50 states. He is being precluded from participating in the debates because the Democrats and Republicans – duopoly that they are – have seen fit to stack the deck against candidates from outside their two parties.

Gary Johnson Interview: Media Frightened to Let Me Debate

August 30, 2012

By Craig Schlesinger

I recently caught up with two-term New Mexico governor and Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson to discuss his recent appearance at P.A.U.L. Fest, Republican politics, the presidential debates, and the general election. With no shortage of good humor, Gov. Johnson is clearly riding a wave of adrenaline and momentum from this past weekend’s events in Tampa, Florida.

Ron Paul Supporters Warm to Gary Johnson, Not Mitt Romney, at RNC Convention

August 30, 2012

By John Ashman

Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson's pilgrimage to Tampa to seek more small government, big liberty adherents and additional publicity is paying off, at least with a subset of November voters.

Johnson recently spoke at P.A.U.L. (now signifying People Awakening and Uniting for Liberty) Festival speaking directly to Ron Paul supporters about his vision and quest for the presidency in a bid to lure them to his side.

Gary Johnson – Bleeding Heart Libertarian

Bleeding Heart Libertarians

August 30, 2012

By Matt Zwolinski

I don’t always vote in presidential elections. And when I do, I don’t kid myself into thinking that my vote is going to make any measurable difference on the outcome. When I vote, I vote in order to express my principles. But only when I can find a candidate whose principles I admire. And that’s pretty rare.

Enter Gary Johnson. Not only is he a sweet, likable guy. Not only is he one of the only presidential candidates the Libertarian Party has ever put forward with serious executive experience.

Gary Johnson finally included in presidential polling

August 30, 2012

KOB 4 Eyewitness News

By Stuart Dyson

At last Gary Johnson is included in presidential polling. It's a major win for the Libertarian candidate who served two terms as Governor of New Mexico. A Rasmussen poll reports of 1,000 likely American voters finds 16 percent have a favorable opinion of Johnson, while 20 percent view him unfavorably.

His biggest problem? 63 percent don't know enough about him to have an opinion. In a horse race the poll shows President Barack Obama and GOP contender Mitt Romney neck and neck with 48 percent apiece, with Johnson far behind with 1 percent and 3 percent undecided.

Could super PAC-backed third-party candidates sway presidential race?

August 31, 2012

NBC News

By Michael Beckel

Dark-horse presidential candidates Gary Johnson and Virgil Goode may not be household names, but with a little help from super PACs, they could peel away precious support from Republican Mitt Romney and possibly even President Barack Obama in some key state races.

Johnson, a former two-term GOP governor of New Mexico who failed to win the 2012 Republican presidential nod, has been nominated by the Libertarian Party — a perch from which he could throw a wrench in the plans of both Obama and Romney in several swing states.

VP hopeful Gray: Ryan not a Libertarian, 'not even a conservative'

August 31, 2012

Count Jim Gray, Gary Johnson's running mate on the Libertarian Party ticket, among those none too happy when his Republican opponent is labeled a philosophical libertarian.

Paul Ryan has a penchant for Ayn Rand and offers plenty of small government rhetoric, but Gray, a retired California superior court judge, said that is about the extent of the similarities. Gray said in an interview during a recent visit to North Carolina that Ryan "can say libertarian things, but he isn't a libertarian."

Johnson campaign has had enough of Republican ballot shenanigans

September 1, 2012

By Karl Dickey

With word Friday that a challenge has been lodged in Ohio to try to remove Libertarian Party presidential candidate and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson's name from the November ballot in Ohio, a senior advisor to Johnson's campaign is charging that the national Republican Party is mounting a concerted effort to "deny citizens the right to vote for the candidate of their choice."

In recent weeks, with the full support and legal assistance of the Republican Party, Johnson's ballot status has been challenged in Michigan, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, Iowa and now Ohio.

Gary Johnson Feels 'So Much Better' Not Being A Republican Anymore

September 2, 2012

Huffington Post

By Lucia Graves

People have talked about Johnson as an election spoiler, theorizing endlessly about from which camp he'll draw most heavily and in which states. That's a conversation he hopes they keep on having. It's good publicity after all, and though he served two terms as the Republican governor of New Mexico, he has no qualms about taking votes away from the GOP. "I long to be a spoiler in this race," he said.

Why Gary Johnson should be given a spot in the debates

September 2, 2012

Kansas City Kansan

By Nick Sloan

Let me give you the one reason why Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson probably will not be allowed in the presidential debates this fall. He's far behind in the polls and barring a miracle or two, he won't win.

OK, that's one reason why. However, that's the only reason why he won't be allowed in the debates and it's unfortunate. It's not necessarily because of Johnson's ideas. There's nothing too radical about wanting the military effort in Afghanistan finished. There's nothing radical with the idea of cutting government spending and balancing the budget.

Gary Johnson setting up to be the most influential factor for Romney and Obama

September 3, 2012

By Karl Dickey

Little known Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson is rapidly becoming one of the most serious influences in the November 6, 2012 general election and the impact of his campaign has Barack Obama and Mitt Romney campaigns nervous. So nervous, Romney's campaign and the Republican Party have been working in multiple states to remove Johnson's name from the ballot.

A decision is expected Tuesday concerning a challenge Iowa Republicans had raised and is expected to end in Johnson's favor, securing him on that state's ballot. Johnson, Obama and Romney are the only three presidential candidates who are expected to be on the ballot in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
