Sen. Shaheen runs from Obamacare as it collapses

With the Obamacare "house of cards" collapsing, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen received much attention earlier this week for "breaking ranks" with her fellow Democrats. She distanced herself from her deciding vote for the law by calling on the Obama Administration to extend Obamacare's open enrollment period amid continued frustration with the troubled website.

It couldn't be more apparent; Sen. Shaheen and others who are directly responsible for forcing Obamacare on us are beginning to cave under pressure out of fear for their own political careers.

While Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire does commend Sen. Shaheen for finally listening to many Granite Staters who have known the implementation of Obamacare would be disastrous for years now, her politically-motivated request for just an enrollment delay is only the tip of the iceberg. An extension of the open enrollment period does nothing to remedy the underlying disaster of the law she voted for, especially due to regulations and taxes within Obamacare's Individual Mandate, which has yet to be delayed.

We caught up with Sen. Shaheen on Wednesday morning and asked her twice whether she has given any thought to "delaying the Individual Mandate."

In her first response, while she reinforces her support for the failing law, she never once says that she would be opposed to delaying the Individual Mandate. When we pressed her for a more clear answer a second time and directly asked her if there is "a situation you can foresee where we could, later on in the year maybe, if things still 'aren't working,' we could push off the mandate?" Sen. Shaheen responded by saying "well, I think we have to keep seeing what happens."

The video can be viewed here.

Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire made the following statement upon releasing the video:

"With Obamacare collapsing, Sen. Shaheen's actions yesterday regarding an extension of the enrollment period show Granite Staters that she is recognizing the political fallout she will receive as a result of the failing law. However, she is not yet willing to address the real problems that will impact the lives of countless New Hampshire families.

"With the Employer Mandate already delayed, her remarkably open-ended response to our questions regarding a delay of the Individual Mandate this morning shows that Sen. Shaheen is seeing the disaster her vote for the failing law could cause her career. As someone who was once an enthusiastic supporter of Obamacare, it is noteworthy to watch Sen. Shaheen run away from it as it falls apart during its implementation. While she might make every effort to distance herself from Obamacare in 2013, Granite Staters know that it was her deciding vote in the U.S. Senate in 2009 that forced it upon them."

While Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire supports repealing Obamacare in its entirety, we encourage all Granite Staters to contact Sen. Shaheen as well as Rep. Shea-Porter and Rep. Kuster and tell them to support delaying at least the individual mandate.

How is Obamacare affecting you?

From all corners of our country, we have heard stories about the problems Americans and businesses are encountering as a result of the implementation of Obamacare. Citizens are losing their health insurance coverage, facing extremely higher premiums and deductibles, or not being able to enroll in the Healthcare exchanges due to website issues.

We would like to hear from you about how Obamacare has affected you. Have you lost your insurance coverage? Has your premium or deductible increased? Has your doctor been eliminated from your covered network? Have you tried to sign-up, but been unable to do so?

We are asking you to contact us and tell us about it. Email your experiences to

Update on the special legislative on Medicaid Expansion

The New Hampshire State Senate and State House are scheduled to take up legislation regarding the Granite State expanding Medicaid. In response, Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire is mobilizing to educate our citizens about the disastrous consequences of expanding the program. Medicaid Expansion will significantly increase the state budget and will likely lead our state into a sales or income tax. Additionally, by expanding Medicaid, our state would be encouraging the irresponsible spending that has become all too common in Washington.

We are working with others on an aggressive campaign to push our legislature to oppose this massive growth of state and federal spending, but we need your help to educate New Hampshire Citizens about what the consequences of expanding Medicaid means to all of us.
