NHDP Statement on Ideological Senate Vote Against Medicaid Expansion

Concord – New Hampshire Democratic Party Communications Director Harrell Kirstein released the following statement on the Senate Republican’s ideological refusal to compromise, expand Medicaid for thousands of New Hampshire working families.
“Responsibility for the dysfunctional debacle seen in the state Senate chamber this morning lies squarely at feet of Republican Senate President Chuck Morse. While the Medicaid Expansion compromise from the Governor and Speaker has received bipartisan support from both parties, Morse couldn’t even get his own caucus to support his unworkable, unfeasible plan.  Instead of compromising, Republicans gave up and tabled Medicaid Expansion.
“Senator Morse failed the people of New Hampshire today.  His refusal to compromise is costing 58,000 Granite Staters access to affordable health insurance.  Despite clear evidence that Medicaid Expansion would boost the economy, create jobs, save the state of New Hampshire money, and strengthen the economic and health security of thousands of working New Hampshire families – Senate Republicans took a page from Ted Cruz’s play book, sided with the Tea Party and refused to work out a solution.”
