Concord - The New Hampshire Republican State Committee today congratulated Senator Jeanne Shaheen on winning PolitiFact's 2013 "Lie of the Year" award. PolitiFact gave the award to the pledge made by President Obama and Senator Shaheen that people could keep their insurance under ObamaCare if they liked it.
"It takes a truly dishonest and fraudulent statement to win this dishonorable award, but President Obama and Senator Shaheen's phony pledge certainly meets the requirements. Senator Shaheen cast the deciding vote for ObamaCare and she repeatedly misled her constituents with this false promise," said NHGOP Chairman Jennifer Horn. "Shaheen has refused to demonstrate the integrity that Granite Staters expect from their elected officials by owning up to her mistake and apologizing. This "Lie of the Year" award reminds voters that its time to replace Senator Shaheen in 2014 with a responsible Republican who will stand up for working families by repealing this terrible law."
In an October 15, 2009 speech on the floor of the Senate, Shaheen dishonestly claimed "everyone will have the freedom to keep their health care plan if they like it," under ObamaCare (Video Here.)
In an August 2009 teletown hall, Shaheen misled a voter from Salem who asked her if he could keep his health insurance under ObamaCare.
"If you have health coverage that you like you can keep it," said Shaheen (Transcript Here.)
