AFPNH - Will you help us control local spending?

Thank you to everyone who contacted Minority Leader Chandler and Minority Whip Jasper about the upcoming vote on CACR 1, the so-called Super Majority legislation. I am pleased to report that Representatives Chandler and Jasper will be supporting CACR 1 on Wednesday when the House votes on the bill.

As you know, we believe this bill, which would require a 3/5 “Super Majority” vote of the legislature to increase any taxes or fees would provide a much-needed check on increasing taxes and unnecessary state spending.

Also this week the House will hold hearings on several bills including HB 593 which would establish a committee to study extending the due date for property tax bills.

If you want to control spending at the local level, what better way to garner public support than to have your property taxes due within 30 days of the town meeting? The idea to implement this important check on local spending came from one of our AFP-NH activists.

Serving as co-sponsors of the bill are Reps. Pamela Tucker, Jeanine Notter, Lynne Ober, Al Baldasaro, James Coffey, and Senator Nancy Stiles.

The bill will be heard in front of the House Municipal and County Government Committee this Thursday at 11:15am. We will keep you posted on the status of this and all other pieces of legislation that will help achieve our goals of lowering taxes, lessening regulations and reducing the size of government.

Sincerely,
