NH House Republican Leader Comments on Gas Tax Increase Bill

CONCORD – Today House Republican Leader Gene Chandler (R-Bartlett) offered the following statement on HB617, a bill that would raise the gas tax 15 cents over the next 4 years. Rep. Chandler testified in opposition to the bill as it was heard in the Ways and Means Committee today.

House Republican Leader Gene Chandler (R-Bartlett)

“The effects of this legislation won’t just stop with increased gas prices. Increased fuel costs will increase the cost of doing business in our state which will inevitably force our state’s businesses to pass along additional burdens to the consumer. This means that not only will New Hampshire families pay more at the pump, but they will also pay more for essential goods and services across the state.”

“Taking hundreds of millions of dollars out of the pockets of New Hampshire consumers during these tough economic times is not the appropriate solution to fixing our roads and bridges. Quite simply, this is the wrong bill at the wrong time.”
