Meet our distinguished panel of guest speakers:  


Stephen P. Barba, PSU Exec. Dir. Office of University Relations 

In 1971, Stephen was the general manager for The BALSAMS Grand Resort Hotel in Dixville Notch, with his managing partners, Barba soon owned the operating company for the 15,000 acre destination resort. His continuous management spanned 35 years until his retirement in 2005. During those years Barba was Dixville Notch's senior selectman and was among the 20-some citizens who voted "first in the nation" every four years. Barba served as Innkeeper Emeritus until 2006 to provide on-site counsel and continuity to the new management. In 2006 Barba accepted a senior administrative position with Plymouth State University as Executive Director of University Relations. His direct reports include public and media relations and publications; the business liaison office; and the Silver Center for the Arts.  In addition, he has a partnership role with conference and event services and the Welcome Center visitor information service.  Barba is the University's principal contact for business, community, state and federal legislative issues.


Cathie LeBlanc, PSU Prof. of Digital Media and Chair, Dept of Communications & Media Studies 

Cathie LeBlanc was born and raised in Goffstown, NH.  She received her BA from Dartmouth College in 1985 and her MS and PhD from Florida State University in 1995 and 1997 respectively, all in Computer Science. Before entering academia, she worked as a software developer for a small consulting firm working with Fortune 500 companies all over the world. She also worked for a small non-profit as a grant writer and fundraiser for a couple of years. She has been at Plymouth State University since 1998, first in the Computer Science and Technology Department, and since 2006, in the Communication and Media Studies Department, becoming chair of the department in 2011. Her current research focuses digital media and game studies with a special interest on the ways in which culture is changed and influenced by technology.

Shannon Mullen,
Film Producer

New Hampshire native Shannon Mullen is a film producer with several features in development. She got her start in the film industry in 2009 as an Assistant Director on the independent feature film GIRLFRIEND, which was shot in Wayland, Massachusetts, went on to win the Audience Award at the Gotham Film Festival and was an official selection at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. Shannon is also public radio reporter for Marketplace, All Things Considered and several other national programs. Her work has appeared in print in Boston Magazine, The Boston Globe, and New Hampshire Magazine.
