"As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs
for you, O God." Psalm 42:1
Summer Greetings from the NH Bible Society
This season often allows for a little more sabbath time than we can manage during the rest of the year. Not all vacations count for this of course. Sabbath is often slower and allows us to just to sit, to stop doing all the things we usually do, and be. Sabbath allows us to rest, to stop and drink at the stream of God's word and God's love.
Board member Rev. David Randlett and I traveled recently to Grace Fellowship Church in Nashua for a visit with Lead Pastor, Rev. Paul Berube. What a ministry Jesus Christ has in this part of the vineyard! Starting with six families there are now a thousand members. The congregation is filled with many languages and ethnicities and there is a great variety of Kingdom activities that proclaim the Gospel in word and deed. It was a delight to hear about mission travels, study groups, a Christian school and the onsite restaurant that serves great food and provides employment.
Whether big or small, our congregations can be like streams of living water that give drink to a parched and thirsty world. Through the word of God we live and help others enter into God's sabbath rest.

Around the Table -- Meet John Loker, New Hampshire Bible Society Board President
I was raised on a farm in Wayland, Massachusetts where both animals and crops were grown and cultivated for sale. In 1965, I graduated from Norwich University and earned a BA in History. I was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. Service life sent me to Massachusetts, South Vietnam, and Virginia. Upon leaving as a Captain in 1968, I had an 18 year career with the Hartford Insurance Group in Hartford, St. Louis and Boston-in both underwriting and management capacities. In the spring of 1985, I received a Call to the Ministry while attending the Londonderry United Methodist Church. I entered Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA and graduated with a M.Div. in 1991. I have been Pastor of United Methodist Churches in East Kingston, Chichester and Fremont, New Hampshire--retiring from full time ministry in 2008. I have served on the Board of Directors of the Pregnancy Care Center in Concord, Community Caregivers of Greater Derry, and New Hampshire Gospel Radio. I have been with the New Hampshire Bible Society since the mid 90's, recently serving as Vice-President and now as President. I am also involved with the New Hampshire Council of Churches and serve on staff at Journey Church - A Church of the Nazarene in Derry, NH. I reside with my wife Joan of 42 years in Londonderry. We have two children and two grandchildren. Our mission for the NH Bible Society is to assist NH people to know the Lord and His Word.

Meet Scott Boren of Calvary Chapel
Calvary Chapel of Nashua's Pastor, Scott Boren, was looking for scripture materials for an upcoming event his congregation were sponsoring this summer to create an awareness of their ministries. A local youth pastor at a different Nashua church was engaging in a conversation with Scott at a pastoral event and realized after Calvary being in Nashua for seventeen years the youth pastor had never heard of Calvary. Call it a silver lining-Scott and his congregation put forth an idea to get the word out.
On July 7, Calvary Chapel hosted a "block party." The event featured a big cookout with hot dogs, watermelon, chips and all the fixings, plus music, frozen yogurt, musical entertainment, free giveaways-including t-shirts and scripture materials (courtesy of NHBS). A tent was donated, food, water and even a professional sound system to get the party rocking. Kids of all ages will play with face painting, balloon animals, and an array of games and fun drenched activities. The open invitation to the event was generated by the enthusiastic members of the church-going door to door inviting folks to join in the fun. Check out Calvary Chapel of Nashua with this link.
