According to new analysis, New Hampshire hospitals stand to lose hundreds of millions of dollars under Medicaid Expansion.
Throughout the debate over Medicaid expansion, we have heard a continual litany of “experts” telling us what an economic boon Medicaid expansion would be for New Hampshire. But it turns out, we were right all along - Medicaid expansion is wrong for New Hampshire and would be more of a boondoggle than a boon for our state and our residents.
According to analysis in The Apothecary, which appeared in Forbes Magazine yesterday, New Hampshire hospitals will lose $228 million from 2014 to 2020 if Medicaid is expanded. In addition, New Hampshire providers can expect to see a $45 million loss in net income if the expansion is approved.
This analysis was written by Avik Roy, who is one of the nation’s preeminent experts in health care reform and has earned the respect of individuals on both sides of the debate.
Proponents of Medicaid expansion may continue to talk about what expansion would add to the state, but the numbers simply do not bear that out!
This analysis reaffirms what we have known all along – Medicaid Expansion is wrong for New Hampshire.
