NH DHHS - NH Foster Youth Convene For Independent Living Conference Spread Your Wings and SOAR

Durham, NH – More than 100 youth will gather Thursday, August 8th

for the 9th Annual Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) Teen

Conference. The daylong conference is designed for youth ages 14 – 20

currently or formerly in state care. FEDCAP, a non-profit organization

from New York that offers a wide array of programs and services to help

young people achieve self-sufficiency, will conduct their signature event

Connect2Careers that will feature over 35 careers to participants in 10

minute sessions. Through this the youth will have the opportunity to meet

and network with up to six professionals during the course of the event.

There will be a number of workshops geared toward providing youth with

information about getting a college degree or educational certificate,

finding the right path through volunteering, informational interviewing and

the New Hampshire Health Profession Opportunity Project (HPOP). Youth will

also learn about key resources to assist them as they transition into

adulthood. DCYF’s Bureau Chief for Field Services Lorraine Bartlett will

speak at the Conference. Part of the conference will include a talent show

and an awards ceremony honoring youth and adults for their positive impact

on youth in foster care.

The conference begins at 8:30 AM in the Memorial Union Building at the

University of New Hampshire.
