The New Hampshire Senate
Republican Majority Office
Concord, NH – Senate President Chuck Morse issued the following statement today after Dr. Avik Roy’s presentation to the Joint Medicaid Expansion Commission:
“Today’s presentation detailed a real opportunity for a possible New Hampshire specific way forward on this complex issue. I applaud Sen. Stiles for her work developing the early stages of this proposal that will use private insurance to cover over 20,000 New Hampshire citizens.
“Dr. Roy discussed an important reality that was highlighted again this week by news of reduced network access for patients on the ObamaCare exchanges: having health insurance coverage is not the same as having access to health care. Republican Senators share the goal of reducing the number of uninsured in New Hampshire and improving health outcomes. I believe the proposal developed by Sen. Stiles and outlined today by Dr. Roy offers an intriguing concept for how we can do so through the private insurance marketplace. It deserves significant further study – particularly related to the availability of federal waivers and cost-sharing subsidies for program enrollees – as an alternative to simply expanding the Medicaid program under the one-size fits all dictates of the federal government.”
