Shea-Porter and Kuster vote against defunding Obamacare and against keeping our federal government running

On Friday, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Congresswoman Ann McLane Kuster (NH-02) both voted against defunding Obamacare and against keeping the federal government running by opposing H.J. Res. 59 - Making Continuing Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2014. While both of New Hampshire's Representatives in Congress opposed it, the legislation passed the House of Representatives 230-189 and will be presented to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
Despite fierce opposition from their constituents, Rep. Shea-Porter's and Rep. Kuster's votes today prove they are so determined to force Obamacare down the throats of Granite Staters that they are even willing to shut down the federal government to do so.
From public surveys to grassroots protests, New Hampshire residents have made their voices loud and clear on Obamacare. They know that this failed law has already begun the destructive process of limiting healthcare access and raising costs in our state. Sadly though, Granite State opposition continues to be pushed aside as our 'representatives' in Washington put their liberal allegiances ahead of their own constituents.
Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire encourages Granite Staters to call Rep. Carol Shea-Porter at 202-225-5456 and Rep. Ann McLane Kuster at 202-225-5206 and tell them to stop playing politics and start listening to their constituents. It is time to do the right thing and defund Obamacare and keep our federal government running.

Sen. Shaheen remains silent on Congress' exemption from Obamacare despite new legislation

Last month, after consulting with White House and Capitol Hill staff, the Office of Personnel and Management (OPM) announced that the federal government could continue to provide Congress with its existing health insurance coverage, forgoing Obamacare exchanges or any dramatic increase in out-of-pocket premium payments. Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire asked Sen. Shaheen, Rep. Shea-Porter and Rep. Kuster, who all support or voted for Obamacare, whether they would support this exemption that would allow them and their staff from participating in Obamacare like the rest of America. To date, none of our aforementioned representatives have responded to us.
However, liberals in Congress are unhappy at the prospect of them and their staff being forced to comply with the same Obamacare regulations forced on the rest of us. It was reported this week in the National Review that several Democratic senators have asked staff to draft legislation that would deny federal health subsidies to anyone who "votes for the Vitter plan, even if Vitter's plan doesn't become law."
Considering the Enzi-Vitter bill is being proposed in the U.S. Senate, Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire is calling on Sen. Shaheen, who cast the deciding vote for Obamacare, to vocally support their legislation and denounce her Democratic colleagues who are drafting spiteful legislation to protect themselves from the burdens of the law they voted for.

Granite Staters are tired of an elitist Congress that believes they don't have to live by the same laws they force the rest of America to live under.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen remained silent last month when an Obamacare exemption was announced for Congress and their staff and has been equally silent regarding the Enzi-Vitter legislation. We are calling on Sen. Shaheen to support this legislation and denounce her party's efforts to derail it. Considering she cast the deciding vote for Obamacare, it is only right that her and her staff should be forced to deal with its consequence like the rest of America.
Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire encourages Granite Staters to call Sen. Jeanne Shaheen at 202-224-2841 and tell her Congress should live by the same rules as the rest of America. Encourage her to support the Enzi-Vitter bill and denounce her colleagues who have been trying to derail their efforts.
