CONCORD, NH – Senate President Chuck Morse, R-Salem, today named Senator Jeanie Forrester, R-Meredith, and Senator Lou D’Allesandro, D-Manchester, as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Finance. Morse, who chaired the committee for the past two budget cycles, made the move following his election as president yesterday. He will remain on the committee as a member, but felt strongly he needed to pass the chairmanship to another senator capable of devoting full-time attention to the position.
Commenting on his decision, Morse said, “I have worked very closely with both Senator Forrester and Senator D’Allesandro on the past two state budgets. I have complete confidence in their understanding of the intricacies of the budget, as well as their ability to oversee the implementation of this fiscal spending plan going forward.”
He added, “Earlier this year, the legislature united across party lines to pass a budget for 2014-2015 that was balanced and will serve as a reliable spending blueprint for our government. I know Senators Forrester and D’Allesandro will work well with Governor Hassan and our executive branch agencies to ensure our spending targets are met. Managing the state budget properly is the foundation for having a sound economy here in New Hampshire. This will ultimately lead to our business community having greater confidence to create new jobs.”
