This week marks 'National School Choice Week' in America - an appropriate time to reflect on the fact that education is one of the most important investments that we can make.
A good education can change a life, lift somebody out of poverty and create economic opportunity and equality.
As Governor of Louisiana, I have fought to give every child an equal opportunity to get a great education.
Too often children are trapped in failing schools - not because of their skills or abilities - but because of their zip code.
That's unacceptable, and that's why New Hampshire Republicans stepped up to pass the state's outstanding education tax-credit law. This law gives businesses a tax credit when they donate to a new scholarship fund that helps parents choose the education setting that is best for their children.
Unfortunately, activist judges and liberal Democrats have relentlessly attacked this worthy program. They have made it clear that they would rather stand up for government unions that oppose this law, instead of the kids who stand to benefit from it.
Governor Maggie Hassan has demonstrated a callous disregard for children who depend on these scholarships. She has repeatedly fought to repeal this popular tax credit - recently she even took the step of urging the state supreme court to restrict school choice by invalidating this good law. Her disgraceful effort to kill this popular program shows that she is out of touch with the values and priorities of her constituents.
In November, New Hampshire voters will have a chance to replace Governor Hassan with a Republican governor who will stand up for policies that will improve educational opportunities for children across the state. They will have a chance to elect a leader who will do what is right for students and parents instead of the liberal special interests and unions that have bankrolled Governor Hassan's political campaigns.
But in order to win, Republicans will need your help to build a strong grassroots network. That's why the New Hampshire Republican State Committee needs your time, efforts, and your donations today to take back the corner office in November.
Governor Bobby Jindal
P.S. If you stand for school choice and giving families and children all the tools they need to get the best education possible - regardless of zip code - then please join me today in making your most generous donation to the New Hampshire Republican State Committee today so they can keep up the fight for this good law.
