(February 13, 2014) - In today's Washington Post, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) said that she would not be attending her party's annual three day meeting, which is taking place in Maryland this week. When asked by a reporter why she wouldn't be attending, her spokesman said Rep. Carol Shea-Porter "will be doing constituent work."
In response, we were excited at the possibility of her providing a venue where Granite Staters could finally discuss the many important issues of the day with her. However, after visiting the events section of her website, we were surprised to see that the congresswoman has none - zero - public events listed for this week. In fact, there are none at all for the entire month of February.
However, while she has no public events scheduled, in a different Washington Post article yesterday, Congresswoman Shea-Porter said President Obama is always welcome to come and explain Obamacare to her constituents.
In response, Derek Dufresne, spokesman for Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, released the following statement:
"Like Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter has made a career out of avoiding public town hall meetings where Granite Staters can engage her on important issues such as Obamacare. Whether it is with President Obama or by herself, Granite Staters welcome the opportunity to discuss Obamacare with Carol Shea-Porter. We just aren't holding our breath waiting for it.
"In the meantime, while New Hampshire residents are getting used to the three aforementioned elected officials hiding from us, we find it incredibly disingenuous for Congresswoman Shea-Porter to use the same constituents she is hiding from as an excuse for not attending an event."
