CONCORD, NH - Karen Testerman, Republican candidate for the United States Senate, expressed her concern over at least the second proposal this week to trample on the rights of the American people.
"Once again, this administration is using a government agency to intimidate," Testerman said. "The 'Multi-Market Study of Critical Information Needs' is meant to determine 'the perceived station bias' and 'perceived responsiveness to undeserved populations.' Is it coincidence that the study is conducted by the agency issuing licenses to these news outlets? This is hardly the scenario for 'voluntary participation.'
"The recent public outcry against the federal license plate tracking system was strong enough to cause the cancellation of that plan, but big-government liberals will not stop. They see opportunities for new, invasive government oversight programs everywhere.
"We already have a government-run news outlet-it is headed by Barack Obama and Jay Carney. They present the government's side of the story very well. Our First Amendment protects the freedom of the press to report the news without justifying every decision to a government agency.
"Once again, we the people must let our voices be heard. As Jefferson said, 'Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.'"
