Jeanne Shaheen has had a rough few months and this week is no different.
After taking to the Senate floor in defense of liberal extremists and opposing American energy development and the job creation/economic benefits that come with it, Jeanne Shaheen is now set to be the beneficiary of San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle fundraisers this weekend. One of these ritzy fundraisers will be hosted by Susie Tompkins Buell, who also hosted the infamous Tom Steyer fundraiser last month.
It was Buell who said “OFA has helped put climate deniers on defense and it has played a role in securing EPA regulations of coal, but it has not provided the kind of inspired leadership we need to tackle climate change,” she wrote. “We want to make it perfectly clear to Democratic candidates that we expect them to lead on this issue.”
Buell’s point seems to be “perfectly clear” to Jeanne Shaheen, who votes with President Obama 99% of the time and is one of the most radical members of the United States Senate. As a staunch advocate for radical legislation like cap-and-trade, it’s clear that Shaheen has been an enemy of American energy. Shaheen’s support for this radical agenda would mean harmful red tape regulation, higher taxes, and higher costs that would cripple entire industries and destroy local jobs in New Hampshire.
"Energy development at home is key to creating jobs, helping working families, and growing our economy, yet Jeanne Shaheen continues to put radical liberal special interests ahead of what's best for Granite Staters," said NRSC Press Secretary Brook Hougesen. "Jeanne Shaheen is one of President Obama's most important soldiers in the War on American Energy, voting with him an eye-opening 99% - even when those policies hurt families and workers in New Hampshire. Jeanne Shaheen's extreme views are far outside the mainstream which is why Granite Staters are excited about the possibility of supporting someone new that they can trust and rely on."
Susie Tompkins Buell Co-Hosted Tom Steyer’s San Francisco Fundraiser In February. “‘That’s like comparing Harry Potter to Voldemort,’ said Susie Tompkins Buell, a San Francisco-based climate donor who co-hosted a Democratic fundraiser Wednesday night at Steyer’s San Francisco home.” (Andrew Restuccia, “Steyer Vs. Koch Cage Fight,” , 2/21/14)
Buell, An OFA Supporter, Said “OFA Has Helped Put Climate Deniers On Defense And It Has Played A Role In Securing EPA Regulations Of Coal.” “Esprit co-founder Susie Tompkins Buell, who attended the San Francisco event, has supported the pro-Obama Organizing For Action (OFA) group and is also a close ally of Hillary Clinton. She wrote in an e-mail that she has lost patience with some in her party. ‘OFA has helped put climate deniers on defense and it has played a role in securing EPA regulations of coal, but it has not provided the kind of inspired leadership we need to tackle climate change,’ she wrote.” (Juliet Eilperin, “Environmental Advocates Target Climate Change As Democratic Election Issue,” , 2/23/14)

In 2011, Buell Led A Protest In San Francisco Of The Keystone Pipeline. “Buell made headlines last fall after she led a protest in San Francisco of the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline by Democrats including Michael Kieschnick, co-founder of CREDO Mobile and Working Assets, which has donated $75 million to progressive causes, IT executive David desJardins, and Anna Hawken McKay, wife of Rob McKay, a wealthy philanthropist whose father founded the Taco Bell empire.” (Carla Marinucci and Joe Garofoli, “Major Democratic Campaign Donor Sours On Obama,” , 1/16/12)
In 2013, Buell Organized An Effort To Press President Obama To Make “Bold” Appointments To Advance The Issue Of Climate Change. “San Francisco philanthropist and businesswoman Susie Tompkins Buell — one of a crowd of big Democratic donors expressing sharp opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline — is organizing a new effort to press President Barack Obama for ‘bold’ appointments to advance the issue of climate change. … This week, Tompkins Buell organizing a signature drive to reach Obama with a strong message to stick to his principles on climate change and carefully consider his appointments in that arena.” (Carla Marinucci, “Big Dem Donor Susie Buell Organizing To Press Obama For ‘Bold’ Appointments On Climate Change,” , 1/28/13)
