CEI Sues EPA Over Stonewalling Records Request

The Competitive Enterprise Institute filed a lawsuit today against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to compel the agency to produce text messages sent by government officials, as required by the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). “This lawsuit challenges, yet another in a pattern of EPA, moves to block access to public records,” said CEI Senior Fellow Christopher Horner. > Read more

Forbes: Why Organized Conservative Opposition To The Comcast Time Warner Deal Misfires

Left-wing commentators note how some on the political right “see the merger as a chance to score points against the Obama administration, which has close ties with top Comcast execs Brian Roberts and David Cohen.” The conservative anti-merger letter gives credence to the left-wing view that capitalism and economic freedom are inimical to civil society and the diffusion of ideas, when they are in fact the prerequisites.

Openmarket.org: Pompeo-Butterfield Food Labeling Bill: Valuable But Needs Work

Wednesday, Reps. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) and G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.) introduced a bill to establish federal standards for the labeling of genetically engineered (GE) foods.

By explicitly preempting state labeling laws and making clear that FDA policy on GE food labeling is the law of the land, H.R. 4432 would serve an extremely valuable function.

Unfortunately, in order to attract support for this perfectly reasonable preemption measure, H.R. 4432 offers GE skeptics the enticement of increasing the FDA’s regulatory power.
