Roll Call: Republican Online Gambling Ban Sets a Dangerous Precedent for States' Rights

Should lawmakers in Washington override state laws and impose their values on the states? Some members of Congress seem to think so, and they are trying to impose a retroactive federal ban on Internet gambling, including in three states that have already legalized the activity. Not only does the proposal trample states’ rights, it will fail to eliminate illegal online gambling while making consumers less safe online, eliminating millions of dollars in tax revenue for states, and favoring a special interest. Globalwarming.org: CEI Submits Comments on EPA’s “Carbon Pollution Standards”

The Competitive Enterprise Institute submitted a set of comments on EPA’s “Carbon Pollution Standards.” The regulation, which was proposed January 8th, would effectively ban the construction of new coal-fired power plants, by requiring the installation of carbon capture and sequestration, an exorbitantly expensive technology that isn’t yet market viable. EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy concedes the rule would have no impact on global temperatures.  > Read more
