The House Republican Alliance issued a statement today on the passage of SB400, a bill to increase the fees for the illegal taking of American Eels. The bill makes the first offense a class A misdemeanor and a second offense a class B felony.
"The killing of bald eagles in New Hampshire merits a violation only, even with subsequent offenses. SB400 has elevated American eels to a class high above our beloved bald eagles, by instituting a class B Felony for the second offense for killing one," stated JR Hoell, Dunbarton. "This bill is clearly inconsistent with our other laws regarding wildlife and one wonders about the priorities of the house leadership when eels are more important than our national symbol."
