Brown For US Senate - NEW TV AD: BROWN’S SISTER TALKS ABOUT TROUBLED UPBRINGING, ABUSE IN HOME

NEW TV AD: BROWN'S SISTER TALKS ABOUT TROUBLED UPBRINGING, ABUSE IN HOME
Says Scott protected her: "He'll be there for you like he has been for me"

MANCHESTER- The Brown campaign today released a new television ad titled “LeeAnn.”  The 30-second spot features Scott Brown's sister, LeeAnn Riley, talking about the hardships of their upbringing and how her brother was there to protect her.

In the ad, LeeAnn describes a childhood marred by domestic abuse, which was detailed in Scott Brown's best-selling 2011 memoir, "Against All Odds." One reviewer called Brown's upbringing "Dickensian" and said: "Brown's early life was so horrible, it seems a marvel that he surmounted it."

Growing up, Brown moved 17 times in his first 18 years, and his mother worked multiple jobs to put food on the table. When men in his mother's life got violent, Brown found himself fighting off her attackers. In his book, Brown writes about choosing to attend Tufts University because it was close by and he could return home quickly to protect his mom and sister, writing, “If I left, who would protect my mother? Who would protect LeeAnn?”

LeeAnn, who lives in Portsmouth, said: "Our mom was married and divorced many times. There was physical abuse in the home. But Scott was there to protect myself and my mom."

The ad closes with LeeAnn to the camera saying, “When people ask me what kind of man Scott is, I tell them he’ll be there for you like he has been for me.”

TRANSCRIPT:

 I’m LeeAnn Riley

I live in Portsmouth

And Scott Brown is my older brother

We moved a lot

Our mom was married and divorced many times

There was physical abuse in the home

But Scott was there to protect myself and my mom

Nobody should have to grow up like that

But it made Scott who he is today

He’s determined to do the right thing

When people ask me what kind of man he is

I tell them he’ll be there for you like he has been for me
