CONCORD, NH – Tom Szold, campaign manager for Marilinda Garcia for Congress, released the following statement in response to Gary Lambert’s recent pledge to not support any climate change legislation that raises taxes.
“Gary Lambert has pledged to an outside group to oppose new climate taxes, yet has refused to renounce his support for the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a regional cap-and-trade scheme. Gary has long been one of New Hampshire's most vocal supporters of RGGI, a cap-and-trade program that has resulted in a tax increase for the hardworking people of the Granite State. He has voted repeatedly to preserve this costly and expensive program, and even cast the deciding vote to prevent New Hampshire from ending its participation in RGGI. RGGI exists in New Hampshire because of Gary Lambert."
“Gary cannot have it both ways; he cannot make campaign promises to oppose new taxes, yet support policies that create those very same climate taxes. Gary’s new climate-tax promise is a perfect example of the convenient policy shifts that Americans have become far too accustomed to from DC politicians like Rep. Ann Kuster and President Obama. This is the reason why the American people are growing frustrated with politics as usual. In contrast, Marilinda Garcia offers a new generation of leadership and is the only candidate in this race with a consistent record opposing cap-and-trade,” said Szold.
