MANCHESTER - Today, Scott Brown released the following statement in response to reports that gross domestic product (GDP) fell at a 2.9% annual rate in the first quarter:
"The Obama economy is heading in the wrong direction. The news that GDP shrank 2.9% in the first quarter, the worst showing since the recession, is unacceptable. Instead of encouraging businesses to grow and expand, Washington continues to put obstacles in their path. The mandate that goes into effect in January requiring businesses to provide health insurance to employees is bad for jobs and bad for the economy. Senator Shaheen supports the business mandate and she will raise energy prices through a new tax on carbon. I oppose energy taxes. These are key differences in our race that will help determine the future course of the economy."
