NHDP - Statement on the Retirement of Senate Leader Sylvia Larsen

Concord, NH—Today, the New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley released the following statement in response to news that Senate Leader Sylvia Larsen will retire.

“For twenty years, Senator Larsen has served the people of the Concord area with extraordinary skill and heart. First elected in 1994 as the only Democrat in the country to win a GOP-held State Senate seat, Senator Larsen’s two decades of tireless service have been full of outstanding accomplishments that will continue to leave a lasting impact. New Hampshire truly is a better state because of Sylvia Larsen.

“Senator Larsen ably served two terms as the Senate President and four terms as Senate Democratic Leader – the longest record of service for a legislative leader in New Hampshire history. Personally, I have known Sylvia for over thirty-five years, she is an amazing public servant who has amassed a significant record of achievements.

"Looking forward, we are confident that a great Democrat will run for Senator Larsen's seat and continue her legacy.”
