Smith For US Senate - Senator's Smith's Reaction to Hobby Lobby Supreme Court Ruling

Senator Smith Responds to Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby Decision

Bedford (June 30, 2014)- The Supreme Court today dealt a blow to President Obama’s health care law.  The Justices sided with Hobby Lobby on the company’s challenge to the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive mandate.  This mandate applied only to “closely-held” businesses, violates the 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act.  The court was divided, with only one dissent from Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

In response to the ruling, Senator Smith stated, “The Supreme Court put freedom of religion above reproductive freedom and I applaud the Justices.  Companies cannot be forced to offer insurance coverage for certain birth control methods they equate with abortion.  This is definitely a step in the right direction and I am happy today to support this monumental decision.”

Senator Bob Smith is a consistent pro-life leader with a perfect pro-life voting record for his entire 18 years in Congress.  While in the Senate, he introduced legislature in 1995 to ban the procedure of infanticide, better known as partial-birth abortion.  In contrast, his two US senate race opponents in New Hampshire, Scott Brown and Jim Rubens are both pro-choice advocates who favor abortion rights.
