The Kansas Republican primary race pitting incumbent Rep. Mike Pompeo against his 4th congressional district predecessor Todd Tiahrt has become heated lately. The generally reliable conservative Tiahrt is hammering Pompeo for sponsoring a bill the former says is a sellout of free market conservative principles. In truth, the bill to limit state power over genetically modified (GM) foods is something conservatives and other free market advocates should get behind.

IMF CALLS FOR CARBON TAXES - MARLO LEWIS

Globalwarming.org: IMF Calls for $1.60/Gal. Hike in Motor Fuel Taxes


The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has just published a 277-page report advocating carbon taxes. The only attraction carbon taxes have for Washington’s big spenders is as a source of new revenue. This is especially the case in an era of half-trillion dollar deficits. As Heritage Foundation economist David Kreutzer quipped, “It is a delusion to believe that $200 billion in new revenues could walk across town [in Washington, D.C.] without getting molested.”

A new Competitive Enterprise Institute report digs into a campaign by federal regulatory agencies to shut down businesses that are politically disfavored but perfectly legal, under the pretext of preventing fraud. “Operation Choke Point targets perfectly legal industries by designating them high-risk, which in turn has a chilling effect on the willingness of banks to do business with them,” said Iain Murray, author of “Operation Choke Point: What It Is and Why It Matters.
