Concord - Governor and likely United States Senate candidate Maggie Hassan will travel to Washington, DC on February 23rd and 24th to deliver the keynote address at America Votes 2015 State Summit. The New York Times reports that America Votes is "a group that coordinates political activity" for liberal organizations and supports liberal congressional candidates. America Votes is closely tied to liberal mega-donors including George Soros, who donated $1 million to the organization in 2012.

Governor Hassan's out of state political trip was first announced on Twitter by America Votes' New Hampshire lobbyist Paula Hodges.

"Pumped that @Maggie_Hassan will keynote the 2015 @AmericaVotes national Summit in a few short weeks!" tweeted Hodges.

"Governor Hassan is focused on currying favor with liberal political advocacy groups for her Senate campaign instead of moving New Hampshire forward. Our state deserves a full time governor who isn't using the corner office as a stepping stone to selfishly advance her political ambitions," said NHGOP Chairman Jennifer Horn. "It is disgraceful that Granite Staters are forced to learn from a political lobbyist that their governor is leaving New Hampshire to rub shoulders with liberal activists in Washington. New Hampshire has a right to know when Governor Hassan is temporarily transferring her powers to leave the state for political travel."

The Nashua Telegraph editorial page today criticized Governor Hassan for using "executive privilege" to restrict information about her political travel.

"If the governor attends a political fundraiser or some other event in another state, the people of New Hampshire should know that," wrote The Telegraph. "The dissemination of such information is one of the ways people can be sure that the state isn't being run by an absentee governor or one who is being unduly distracted by political considerations."
