Call Follows Sen. Klobuchar's Decision To Return Disgraced New Jersey Senator's Contributions
Concord - The New Hampshire Republican State Committee today called on Senator Jeanne Shaheen to return donations from disgraced New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez. Menendez, who donated $7,500 to Shaheen through his New Millennium PAC, was indicted yesterday on bribery charges in what prosecutors called a scheme to trade political favors for luxury vacations, golf outings and expensive flights (New York Times, 4/1/15). Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) announced last night that she would voluntarily return all contributions from Menendez and his leadership PAC (USA Today, 4/2/15).
"Granite Staters expect their elected officials to stand up for integrity and high ethical standards in government. The criminal corruption charges that have been brought against Senator Menendez are extremely troubling, and it's time for Senator Shaheen to distance herself from her disgraced Democrat colleague by returning his tainted campaign donations," said NHGOP Chairman Jennifer Horn. "Senator Amy Klobuchar made the right decision to return her tainted contributions. It's time for Senator Shaheen to follow her lead and immediately dump her dirty Menendez money."
In 2013, WMUR reported that Senator Menendez personally sent an email to his list of supporters asking them to donate money to Shaheen's reelection campaign.
