The Value of Trade

House leaders expect to vote Friday on Trade Promotion Authority, which would give the President “fast-track” authority so that implementing legislation for trade agreements can be voted up or down without amendment. "It’s worth reminding policymakers about the value of free trade—both exports and imports," said CEI trade policy expert Fran Smith. Ex-Im Mission to Impoverish US

The U.S. Senate on Wednesday cast a vote in favor of keeping the Ex-Im Bank. CEI and other free market groups have put forward many reasons to let this cronyist, taxpayer-backed institute lapse on June 30. "Ex-Im’s very mission, intentionally or not, is to impoverish the U.S. to the greatest extent it can," said CEI policy analyst Ryan Young.  > Read more

USA FREEDOM Act: A Win for Privacy

Last week, some two years after the public learned of this mass surveillance, a strong majority in Congress voted to end it, stripping the government of its authority under the 2001 PATRIOT Act to engage in indiscriminate domestic surveillance.
