NHDP - Nashua Telegraph Editorial on How Kelly Ayotte Got Stuck “Out On A Limb For Frank Guinta”

Telegraph: “Ayotte went out on a limb for Guinta back then and now he’s going to repay the favor by sawing the thing off behind her, with the executive committee of the GOP providing the saw.”

Concord, N.H. – As Kelly Ayotte and the New Hampshire Republican Party struggle with the mess they created by propping up Frank Guinta throughout his years of lies, the Nashua Telegraph editorial board highlighted the predicament facing Republicans who are now stuck “Out on a limb for Frank Guinta.”

The Telegraph notes that the NHGOP has taken an “incredibly short-sighted approach” by refusing to call for Guinta’s resignation.

Adding, “There’s a reason Sen. Kelly Ayotte, among others, has called for Guinta to do the right thing and resign. This is the same Ayotte who agreed to help when Guinta called and asked her to attend a fundraiser for him in 2013, even though Guinta faced a likely primary. Most senators would have declined rather than play favorites before a primary, but Ayotte did Guinta a favor… Ayotte went out on a limb for Guinta back then and now he’s going to repay the favor by sawing the thing off behind her, with the executive committee of the GOP providing the saw.”

… The executive committee of the state Republican Party has declined to call for Guinta’s resignation, saying it’s up to voters in the 1st District to decide whether Guinta stays or goes.

The inescapable conclusion is that the party hierarchy views even a badly tainted Republican incumbent as preferable to the possibility that the seat might be lost in the special election that a vacancy would bring.

That’s an incredibly short-sighted approach that only benefits Frank Guinta, who has demonstrated himself quite capable of acting in his own self-interest, thank you very much. He hardly needs the party’s help on that front.

You know who does, though? All those other Republicans who are going to have to run with the millstone of Guinta’s five years of lies dragging them down.

This is the same Ayotte who agreed to help when Guinta called and asked her to attend a fundraiser for him in 2013, even though Guinta faced a likely primary. Most senators would have declined rather than play favorites before a primary, but Ayotte did Guinta a favor. It’s not like she has a natural antipathy toward the guy.

Ayotte went out on a limb for Guinta back then and now he’s going to repay the favor by sawing the thing off behind her, with the executive committee of the GOP providing the saw.

A lot of other Republicans are going to be out there on that limb with Ayotte, too, come 2016.
