Prescott Parks 2015 Season Concert Series Line Up
Portsmouth NH – The much anticipated reveal of Prescott Park Arts Festival’s 2015 season line-up was announced to the public after a week-long sneak preview at the concert series’ sponsor, the River House Restaurant. The summer concert series is nationally known for presenting distinguished musical acts from a dynamic range of genres in a one-of-a-kind picturesque outdoor setting along the Piscataqua River, all on a suggested donation basis.
This non-profit arts organization encounters its 41st season welcoming an all-star lineup of acclaimed artists to the Seacoast including Trampled by Turtles, Neko Case, Yonder Mountain String Band, Bela Fleck, Devil Makes Three, Milk Carton Kids, Steve Earl, Richard Thompson, and more on the Wilcox Industries Main Stage this summer.
“It’s been a long winter and this season is very much anticipated” described the Festival’s President, Ben Anderson, “Our staff has spent countless hours to be able to offer this caliber of acts, and this experience to the full community. It’s no easy feat to present this on a give-what-you-can basis. It’s truly the gem of the seacoast.”
Founded in 1974, the festival has continued to offer its events on a suggested donation basis for its entire history, having raised the amount only once in the early 1980s from $3 to the current amount of $5.
“This is a really important part of our mission,” explained Anderson, “Regardless of means, anyone and everyone can enjoy the same magical and high-quality arts entertainment at Prescott Park. Our mission to provide this asset to the community has been steadfast and true.”
Leading off the star-studded season is legendary, Grammy-nominated Neko Case on Wednesday, June 17th. Her restless musical curiosity is matched only by the caliber of her compositions and clarion voice. Formerly of the Canadian group The New Pornographers, Case has eight widely-acclaimed Grammy nominations to her credit, and no apparent limit to her talent.
Matt Andersen, award-winning Canadian blues guitarist and singer-songwriter, returns to the Wilcox Industries Main Stage on Wednesday, August 12th . With awards including ECMA male solo artist of the year and blues recording of the year (2009), Andersen was the first Canadian to win the International Blues Challenge (2010). The festival is thrilled to welcome the internationally-credited Andersen back to the main stage, after his well-attended and unarguable epic performance last season.
American bluegrass folk/rock band Trampled by Turtles will make their Prescott Park debut on Wednesday, July 29th. They are no stranger to festivals, having performed at venues such as Coachella and national television programs including Late Show with David Letterman. With top 10 hits on the Billboard charts, Trampled by Turtles will be sure to please attendees.
Other season highlights as part of the River House Restaurant Concert Series will include British folk rock icon Richard Thompson (Wednesday, June 24th); redefined acoustic bluegrass group Yonder Mountain String Band (Wednesday, July 1st); captivating Americana band The Steel Wheels (Saturday, July 4th); alternative indie sensation Thao & the Get Down Stay Down (Wednesday, July 8th); The Duhks, Heather Maloney, and Mike & Ruthy (Saturday, July 11th); premier acoustic duo Milk Carton Kids (Saturday, July 12th); Grammy award winner Steve Earle & the Dukes (Wednesday, July 15th); critically acclaimed Martin Sexton (Sunday, July 19th); The Stray Birds (Sunday July 19th); Spirit Family Reunion (Sunday, July 19th); Dustbowl Revival (Sunday, July 19th), Grammy winning banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn (Wednesday, July 22nd); exuberant Americana trio Devil Makes Three (Friday, July 24th); Canadian folk rock hero Bruce Cockburn (Wednesday, August 19th); extraordinary folk-rock American songwriter Josh Ritter (Friday, September 4th); and the must-see bluegrass band Della Mae (Wednesday, September 9th).
“There is more to come,” hinted Anderson, “We have a few favorites to announce very soon. We still have some very exciting acts in the works.”
The Arts Festival will feature Peter Pan the Musical, presented by C&J Bus Lines, as their signature musical production this season. Beginning Friday, June 26th, Pan, Tink, and the pirates promise to take the Park by storm with this award-winning musical filled with hilarious fun, melodies and flying. This well-loved musical will be held every Thursday through Sunday during the summer season.
