Concord, NH – Governor Maggie Hassan today vetoed SB 179 relative to voter residency requirements.
Senator Sharon Carson (R-Londonderry) released a statement following the Governor’s veto.
“I am disappointed that Governor Hassan has chosen to veto a responsible bill that would have restored meaningful elections to the citizens of New Hampshire, ensuring that legal residents’ votes can affect change in the communities they are invested in,” said Senator Sharon Carson (R- Londonderry).
“The legislation the Governor vetoed would have added a 30-day residency requirement and clarified the state’s voting laws. This bill has the full support of New Hampshire’s official on voting laws, Secretary of State William Gardner, who says it will protect the state from voter fraud and drive-by voting without infringing on an individual’s right to vote.”
