Concord - The New Hampshire Republican State Committee today filed the following Right to Know request regarding Governor Maggie Hassan's communications with disgraced former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid:
Dear Governor Hassan,
This is a request under the New Hampshire Right To Know Law (RSA 91-A).
I formally request that you provide me with all records from your office regarding your communications with disgraced former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. This includes phone records, calendar records and any written or electronic communications from you and your staff.
This week, POLITICO reported that disgraced former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has personally encouraged you to abandon your gubernatorial responsibilities and run for United States Senate. When questioned about this report by WMUR-TV, your spokesman provided "no direct comment" and refused to admit that Senator Reid has called you.
Your political ambitions are the worst kept secret in Concord, and it's obvious that you are using the corner office as a stepping-stone for higher office. It's not surprising to learn that you are quietly working with Washington elites and party bosses to plot your United States Senate campaign.
Granite Staters deserve a full-time governor who is focused on moving New Hampshire forward instead of advancing her political career. They also deserve to know how much time you are wasting taking phone calls from Beltway insiders instead of addressing the state budget crisis that you created. Your unwillingness to admit that you have been in contact with Senator Reid is extremely troubling and raises very serious questions about your commitment to government transparency.
As a result, we have no choice but to file this request to get more information on your interactions with Senator Harry Reid. Pursuant to the guiding statutes, please respond to this request within five (5) days of receipt. If you deny any or this entire request, please cite each specific exemption you feel justifies the refusal to release the information and notify me of appeal procedures available to me under the law.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
