As Outrage Grows, Chris Sununu Doubles Down on Defunding Planned Parenthood, Blocking Critical Health Services for Women & Families
Concord, N.H. – Despite the fact that nearly 7 in 10 New Hampshire voters oppose Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, Chris Sununu is doubling down on his "shameful" vote to block funding for health services that are critical to the health and economic wellbeing of women and families.
A Nashua Telegraph editorial called it “shameful that political ambition on the part of Republican Councilor Chris Sununu” will end up “blocking access to affordable health care to thousands of Granite State women.”
An editorial in the Portsmouth Herald also slammed Sununu’s “politically motivated” vote that “punishes women who need services.” Adding that Sununu and Republicans “need to stop playing games with women’s health.”
“Chris Sununu is in desperate damage control mode as he faces mounting criticism from newspapers across the state and the nearly 70% of Granite State voters who oppose his vote to defund Planned Parenthood and block critical health services for women and families,” said New Hampshire Democratic Party Communications Director Lizzy Price. “Pandering to his far-right base by blocking access to women’s health services to solidify his standing in a statewide primary proves that Chris Sununu is dangerous for the wellbeing of New Hampshire women, and Granite State families will hold him accountable for his politically motivated vote to defund Planned Parenthood.”
