NH Senate Republican Caucus - Democrats uphold veto on bill to curb EBT abuse.

Forrester statement on sustained veto of EBT benefit legislation

Concord, NH – Today, the veto was sustained for a bill, SB 169, which would have provided clarification of the permitted uses of the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards and cash debited from the cards.

“This bill, SB 169, was intended to curb the misuse of cash benefits from EBT cards by clarifying that these cards are not to be used to make purchases at state liquor stores, gambling establishments, and adult entertainment venues, or for items including firearms, lottery tickets, or tobacco,” said Senator Jeanie Forrester (R-Meredith).

“This legislation would have provided a clearer understanding of how these benefits should be used and I am disappointed that we could not come to an agreement and take this simple step to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly while those who receive this critical assistance are protected,” added Forrester.
